After 25 years of captivity and unimaginable trauma at the hands of his own mother, who for years had subjected him to sexual abuse and kept him drugged(according to activists), the young Texas man found alive this week, though reported missing nearly a decade ago, has finally tasted freedom again, according to local advocates privy to details of his harrowing ordeal and understandably hesitant emergence into a world long lost yet still dimly recalled.
After not being seen for four long years since his worried mother sounded the alarm, the now 21-year-old Rudy Farias emerged last week outside a local church in Houston. Farias was 17 when his mom said he never returned home from a walk with his dogs.
While conversing confidentially with investigators from Houston’s Missing Persons Unit this Wednesday, neither Farias nor his mother disclosed any details pertaining to the substance of their discussion.
Quanell X, a well-known community activist in Houston, said Farias told him he was sexually abused and heavily drugged by his mother for years.
The male uttered in disbelief, “Never have I heard of a female guardian acting in such a manner towards her offspring.” He continued, “That young man requires admission into the most prestigious rehabilitation center and mental health institution available for his wellbeing. He is a child of good character. That child endured atrocious mistreatment.”
